Every Christian is in a battle zone whether he or she is aware of it or not. The moment you made a decision to exit the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light, the battle line was drawn. Having proper knowledge of this is pertinent to the success of your Christian journey because though being made a victor in Christ; one can still suffer defeat in many areas of life if he or she if ignorant of the devices of the enemy or the weapons of warfare at his or her disposal and their varied applications. Being aware that you are in a battle zone or not does not change the reality of the battle and the effect it has on your life on a daily basis.

A lot of Christians still suffer defeat in their health, finances, career etc not because Christ has not won the victory for them but because they are ignorant of the devices of the enemy. Some are also ignorant of the weapons of warfare that God has made available in Christ Jesus. This life of defeat is mostly due to lack of knowledge. God said in Hosea 4:6 that, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” Lack of knowledge is destructive – very destructive. I have heard some people say, “What you don’t know cannot kill you”. That statement is erroneous and possessing such mentality can bring one to complete obliteration. In fact, what actually kills most people is what they don’t know and this has been proven time and again.

If the Word of God admonishes us not to be ignorant of the devices of the enemy, then it is obvious that many are actually ignorant and that ignorance is causing great harm.

It is indeed a terrible thing for a Christian to be ignorant when God has put at his disposal the fountain of knowledge – The Word. Christians are supposed to be the most enlightened ones on this earth because Jesus said that we are the light of the world (Matt 5). How can one be the light of the world when he is in darkness himself? As lights we are meant to give the proper interpretation and understanding of things to the children of men. They are supposed to depend on us for illumination as touching all areas of the human life. No matter the name that man gives to a thing; if it is not what the word of God calls it then that is not what it is. Whatever the word of God says is the final stand on any subject.

What many have thought is spiritual warfare is not really it or is only a minute part of the whole subject. Spiritual warfare has multiple dimensions of engagement which we need to be aware of if not the battle is already lost before it begins. We will deal more with this in the next article.
