Judas’ Plight

Introduction

What if you could have a conversation with Judas? What do you think he would say? I think he’d beg you to hold tight to the privilege of fellowship and assurance of eternal life. I think he’d encourage you to persevere. I think he’d appeal with you to repent of anything that does not align with Christ in your life.

I think he’d tell you how blessed you are to have the forgiveness of sins and the Holy Spirit: power, a seal – an assurance of eternity, and more. So, when you fall in the biggest ways or when you fail in the smallest ways, remember to get back up, because Christ would rather have a Peter who denied him three times and repented than a Judas who betrayed him once and killed himself.

So, before you turn away from God, before you let that event spoil your mood for the day, here’s what I think Judas will tell you (in form of a poem):

“Yes, I took a piece from the pot’
In my defence, a labourer deserves his wage and maybe a little lot.’
You can’t tell me you won’t be tempted for an extra shelf,’
When you carry daily what is meant for atleast Twelve.’

Yes, I am not a camel, but that perfume was my last straw’
The pouring, the tears, the cleaning, the mercy, but my heart did not thaw.’
I knew he always did mysterious things, but how could waste become preparation for death?’
I knew he ‘is’ a powerful man, so there was no flaw in thinking it would only get me greater wealth.’

Only wealth, I thought, only wealth I was assured, not death.’
Now my heart finally melts, thawing deeper than mercy can go, or at least that’s how I felt.’
I got a lot, they later got a plot, but I was swaddled in guilt like a helpless child.’
Crippled by shame and pride as one without knowledge, truly defiled.’

I lost my discipler and you gained your Lord.’
If only I knew, that mercy required just faith, that I could afford.’
I ate, I worked, I moved with him for years.’
But now I wish like the strange thief I was bold enough to veer.’

So, I may recap the story you have heard for many years.’
With hopes that you do not yourself wrongly veer.’
And with a prayer that you stay strong and persevere.’
Knowing that soon he’d reappear.”
